Cinematic Main Stage Visuals
Role: Producer, Art Director, Designer
Overview
OpsLive is a biennial event showcasing innovative tech to an invite-only audience. I was asked to support one of the presenters with a slideshow presentation, but after reviewing the project request, I knew I needed to pitch a more ambitious idea. Instead of slides, I could design and produce a cinematic 3D experience tailored to the audience and the event’s ultra-wide screens.
Approach
Discovery
The presenter would share a deeply personal story. Any visuals created needed to translate their story respectfully into high impact visuals. The visuals needed to be choreographed to the presentation but allow the presenter to ad lib.
Ultra-Wide Screens
I designed visuals for curved 9,600 x 1,536 pixel displays, leveraging these specs to create an immersive experience wrapped around the audience. I held weekly syncs with a 3D production team and stakeholders to keep content aligned and solve any technical challenges, such as screen mapping and render times.
Production
In production, I directed 3D artists in building out storyboards, animatics, and the final animations. 3D production was new to the presenter, so I developed style frames to guide the presenter through the process. Education and collaboration were essential to our success.
Impact
- Delivered 18 polished 3D animations which wowed audiences and elevated the experience
- Increased booth traffic in the expo hall, which raised visibility for the presenter’s mission
- Strengthened relationships with event hosts and creative teams, leading to more collaboration opportunities
- Raised the bar on the event’s main stage visuals, inspiring other presenters to push for higher quality content too
